Louis P. Meyer, Esquire
Florida Property Damage and Personal Injury Attorney | Tampa and Boca Raton
Who I am
I am Louis P. Meyer, a Florida attorney who represents policyholders and injury victims across the state. My work comes down to one thing: making sure insurance companies and at-fault parties pay what they actually owe, not what they would prefer to pay. If your property claim got denied or underpaid, or someone else’s negligence left you hurt and buried in bills, you are in the right place
What I Do
I focus my practice on two areas where insurance companies do their best work in the shadows, and where a lot of good people get taken advantage of.
First-party property insurance claims. This is the fight between you and your own insurance company after your home or business is damaged. I handle hurricane and windstorm damage, water damage, roof claims, fire and smoke loss, mold, and bad faith. When a carrier lowballs your estimate, delays your claim, misapplies a policy exclusion, or flat out denies you, I know the playbook they are running, because I have seen it hundreds of times. I take these claims from the first denial letter all the way through litigation, including statutory bad faith under Florida law.
Personal injury. When someone else’s carelessness hurts you, the last thing you should be doing is negotiating with their insurance company alone. I represent people injured in auto accidents, motorcycle crashes, truck accidents, boating accidents, and slip and fall incidents. I deal with the adjusters and the paperwork so you can focus on healing.
Who I Represent
My clients are homeowners, business owners, and everyday Floridians who did everything right. They paid their premiums for years. They followed the rules. Then, at the exact moment they needed their policy to work, the carrier decided to make it difficult. I represent the person on the other side of that denial letter. I also represent people whose lives got upended by an accident that was not their fault and who are now staring down medical bills that are not theirs to carry.
If that sounds like your situation, we should talk.
Background and Credentials
I did not get into this line of work to push paper around. I got into it because insurance companies count on people not understanding their own rights, and I am very good at making that assumption expensive for them. Here is the background behind the work.
Education
- LL.M. (Master of Laws) from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University
- B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
- Professional certificate programs completed at Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, which sharpened both the legal side and the business side of how I build and run cases
The attorney insurance companies would rather you never called
Professional
- Licensed Florida attorney, Florida Bar No. 1024811
- Senior Attorney at Kanner & Pintaluga, P.A., a firm of roughly 100 attorneys operating across 18 states, which means real resources and real firepower stand behind your case
- Practice concentrated in first-party property insurance litigation and personal injury law throughout Florida
- Bilingual, English and Spanish. Se habla español.
I ground my property work in the Florida statutes that actually govern these disputes, including the sections dealing with an insurer’s duty of good faith, unfair claims practices, and prompt payment of claims. That matters, because a lot of the leverage in these cases comes from knowing exactly which rule the carrier is breaking and being ready to prove it.
Most people meet me on the worst week of their year. A hurricane peeled the roof off their house. A fire took the kitchen. Someone ran a red light and now they can’t work. They did everything right, they paid their premiums for years, and then they filed a claim and the carrier suddenly forgot how to write a check.
That’s the moment I do my best work.
I’m Louis Meyer, a Florida attorney at Kanner & Pintaluga. I represent homeowners and injury victims, and I go up against the insurance companies that delay, underpay, and deny the claims they promised to cover. I’ve spent my career learning how carriers think, what they look for, and where they cut corners, so that when they try it on you, I already know the play.
What I do
I focus on two things, and I do them all over Florida.
Property insurance claims. Hurricane and windstorm damage, roof and water damage, fire loss, mold, and the bad faith games carriers play when they’d rather fight you than pay you. If your claim was denied, delayed, or lowballed, that is exactly the work I take on. I know Florida’s post-loss rules cold: notice deadlines, the sworn proof of loss, examinations under oath, requests for information, all the paperwork the carrier hopes you’ll trip over. I make sure you don’t.
Personal injury. Car, motorcycle, truck, and boat accidents, plus slip and fall and premises cases. When you’re hurt, the other side’s insurer starts working against you almost immediately. I get in front of that and fight for what your recovery is actually worth, not the number an adjuster wants to close the file for.
How I Work
A few things make me different from what people expect when they picture a lawyer.
I talk to you like a person. You will understand what is happening with your claim, why it is happening, and what we are doing about it, in plain English, not legalese. When there is an acronym or a piece of insurance jargon in the way, I explain it. For example, if your carrier demands an EUO, which stands for Examination Under Oath, I will walk you through exactly what that is and how we handle it.
I am honest with you about where you stand. If you have a strong claim, I will tell you. If there is a real problem, I will tell you that too, before it becomes a surprise. I would rather lose a potential client to the truth than sign one up on a promise I cannot keep.
And I do not back down because a carrier has a bigger name or a bigger legal department. Neither do I bluff. I prepare every case like it is going to trial, because that is what gets results.
Beyond the Practice
I am a dad first, and family runs through everything I do. When I am not working a case, you will usually find me on the mats or on the track. I train Brazilian jiu-jitsu, currently a purple belt, and I ride motocross. Both teach the same lesson that shows up in my legal work: show up prepared, stay calm under pressure, and never quit in a bad position.
I mention this because I think you deserve to know who is actually representing you. I am not a billboard. I am a real person who takes your case personally.
I Do Not Just Practice This. I Teach It.
Insurance companies would love for policyholders to stay in the dark about their rights. I go the other direction. I put out free, plain-language content breaking down carrier tactics, your post-loss obligations, and how these claims really work.
- Off The Record by Louis Meyer, my podcast, available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, and Deezer
- No Fine Print, my Substack publication, where I break down real claim issues: post-loss duties, requests for information, examinations under oath, recorded statements, wear-and-tear exclusions, sworn proofs of loss, and the fine print carriers hope you never read
If you want to understand how the insurance game is really played before you ever pick up the phone to call a lawyer, start there.
Where I Practice
I represent clients throughout the State of Florida. I work primarily out of the Tampa and Boca Raton offices of Kanner & Pintaluga, and the firm maintains 30-plus offices, so wherever your loss or injury happened in Florida, I can help.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge for a consultation? No. The initial consultation is free. Reach out and I will give you an honest read on your situation.
What does it cost to hire you? Property and injury cases like these are typically handled on a contingency basis, which means you generally do not pay attorney fees unless there is a recovery. I will explain your exact fee arrangement clearly and in writing before you commit to anything.
My insurance company already denied my claim. Is it too late? Not necessarily. A denial is the insurance company’s opinion, not the final word. Many denied and underpaid claims can be reopened, disputed, and litigated. The sooner you reach out, the more options you tend to have, because Florida claims are governed by strict deadlines.
Do you speak Spanish? Yes. Se habla español.
Are you affiliated with Louis Law Group? No. I am Louis P. Meyer of Kanner & Pintaluga, P.A. My practice is independent of Louis Law Group and attorney Pierre A. Louis. If you were looking for me specifically, you have found the right attorney.
